HYROX Berlin

Race at the marathon city's home expo hall β€” then walk the Wall.

Sat, 25 Apr 2026 Messe Berlin, Berlin 3 days Β· arrive Fri, 24 Apr 2026

HYROX Berlin is held at Messe Berlin β€” the same venue complex used for the Berlin Marathon expo, making it one of the most experienced event-hosting facilities on the HYROX circuit. April in Berlin is mild (8–16Β°C) and ideal for the recovery sightseeing on Day 3. Berlin has a deeply embedded fitness culture and the HYROX field is strong and competitive. The city's history, art, and food scene make this one of the most complete HYROX weekends available β€” East Side Gallery, Reichstag, and the Markthalle Neun food hall are all within easy reach.

Your 3-day itinerary

1

Arrival & HYROX Expo

~$130

Morning

Arrive at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)1 hr$5

BER opened in 2020 and is 35 km south of the city centre. The Airport Express (FEX) train reaches Hauptbahnhof in 30 minutes (€4.70). From Hauptbahnhof, U2 goes directly to Messe Berlin (Messe Nord/ICC station). Berlin's U-Bahn and S-Bahn network is excellent β€” no hire car needed.

πŸ’‘ Buy a Berlin 3-day ABC transport pass (€46) covering all zones including the airport FEX β€” best value for the weekend.

HYROX Expo β€” Messe Berlin2 hrs

Messe Berlin is a sprawling exhibition complex near the iconic Berlin Radio Tower (Funkturm). The HYROX expo uses the same halls as the Berlin Marathon expo β€” one of the most well-run event infrastructure setups in Germany. Athlete check-in, bib collection, and the exhibitor floor are all efficient and well-organised.

πŸ’‘ U2 to Messe Nord/ICC is the direct connection from central Berlin. Friday morning bib collection is significantly less crowded than Saturday. German athletes take their HYROX seriously β€” bring your A-game.

Afternoon

East Side Gallery1.5 hrs

The 1.3 km stretch of the Berlin Wall along the Spree river, preserved as the world's longest outdoor gallery β€” painted with murals by 105 international artists in 1990. Flat walking along the river, powerful history, and free entry. The Hinterhof Gallery entrance and the famous 'Fraternal Kiss' mural are highlights.

πŸ’‘ Visit early to avoid tour groups. The entire 1.3 km stretch takes about 45 minutes to walk at a relaxed pace β€” perfect pre-race low-intensity movement.

Markthalle Neun β€” Thursday Street Food1.5 hrs$18

Berlin's most celebrated food market hall. Thursday evenings are the famous 'Street Food Thursday' event (€0 entry) β€” international street food vendors, craft beer, and the best food atmosphere in Berlin. If you arrive on a Thursday, this is the unmissable pre-race dinner spot.

πŸ’‘ Markthalle Neun is in Kreuzberg β€” a 15-minute U-Bahn ride from Messe Berlin. Thursday Street Food runs 17:00–22:00 weekly.

Evening

Pre-race dinner β€” Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg2 hrs$38

Zum Franziskaner (Potsdamer Platz) does excellent pasta and schnitzel in enormous portions. For a lighter pre-race option, Good Bank (Mitte) does protein bowls and salads if you prefer cleaner fuel. Prenzlauer Berg has dozens of reliable trattoria for carb loading.

πŸ’‘ Keep dinner carb-heavy and familiar. Avoid anything fried, very high in fibre, or unfamiliar to your gut. German portions are large β€” one main course plus water is plenty.

Where to eat

Trattoria or Markthalle Neun (Thursday)dinnerΒ· $38

Trattoria or Markthalle Neun (Thursday): High carb pre-race.

2

Race Day β€” 8 Stations, 1 Goal

~$140

Heats run from 08:00 to 18:00 β€” arrive at Messe Berlin 60 minutes before your assigned heat. Check your heat time on the HYROX app the evening before. Live leaderboards update in real time on the HYROX app. The SkiErg (station 1) sets the pace for your entire race β€” German athletes tend to be very disciplined about pace. Watch the top athletes set a controlled, metronomic SkiErg tempo and match your own target pace to your training times, not to the athletes next to you.

Morning

Pre-race breakfast30 mins$12

Eat 2.5–3 hours before your heat. German hotel breakfasts are typically generous β€” bread, cold cuts, cheese, and boiled eggs. Add a banana and stick to carbs. Avoid the muesli with dried fruit (too much fibre) and the charcuterie-heavy option on race morning.

πŸ’‘ Berlin has a Lidl or Rewe supermarket within a short walk of most hotels β€” stock up on porridge, peanut butter, and bananas Friday evening for race-morning backup fuel.

U2 to Messe Nord β€” Transition area45 mins$3

U2 direct from central Berlin to Messe Nord/ICC station is the race-day route. The transition area opens 60 minutes before each heat. Messe Berlin is well-structured β€” the HYROX course layout at this venue is considered one of the best on the circuit.

πŸ’‘ German venues are efficiently run β€” transitions are fast, signage is excellent, and volunteers are knowledgeable. Arrive 60 minutes before your heat and use the full warm-up time.

Afternoon

HYROX Race β€” Berlin1.5–2.5 hrs

8 x 1km runs alternating with 8 functional stations: SkiErg β†’ Sled Push β†’ Sled Pull β†’ Burpee Broad Jump β†’ Row β†’ Farmers Carry β†’ Sandbag Lunges β†’ Wall Balls. The German crowd is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Berlin athletes are disciplined and strategic β€” you will see efficient, well-executed transitions throughout the field.

πŸ’‘ Transition efficiency separates amateur and intermediate HYROX athletes. Practise your transition routine: chalk up during the last 50m of each run, so you arrive at the station ready. 10 seconds saved per transition is 80 seconds saved in a race.

Athlete village β€” Messe Berlin1.5 hrs

The Messe Berlin athlete village is well-catered with excellent German sports nutrition brands and the standard HYROX sponsor setup. The finisher area is spacious and efficiently run.

Evening

Recovery dinner β€” Zur Letzten Instanz or Berlin Mitte2 hrs$45

Zur Letzten Instanz (est. 1621, Berlin's oldest restaurant) in Mitte serves traditional German cuisine β€” schnitzel, sauerbraten, and Pilsner in a historic setting that has served Napoleon and Charlie Chaplin. A post-HYROX protein plate of German proportions is exactly what you need.

πŸ’‘ Zur Letzten Instanz does take reservations and Saturday dinner gets busy β€” book in advance. The boar schnitzel with potato salad is a legendary recovery meal.

~$100

Morning

Reichstag dome visit1.5 hrs

The glass dome atop Norman Foster's reconstructed German Parliament (Bundestag) offers 360Β° views of Berlin and free entry β€” but you must pre-register online (free, at bundestag.de). The spiral ramp to the top is HYROX-legs-friendly: mostly level with a gradual incline. Stunning views.

πŸ’‘ Registration for the Reichstag dome is free but must be done online in advance β€” same-day entry is not available. Register before you travel. Bring your passport for identification.

Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten walk1.5 hrs

A gentle walk from the Reichstag to the Brandenburg Gate and through the southern edge of the Tiergarten (Berlin's central park β€” larger than Hyde Park) is one of the great European city morning walks. Flat terrain, remarkable history, and the morning light on the Gate is spectacular.

Afternoon

Prenzlauer Berg brunch β€” Anna Blume1.5 hrs$25

Berlin's most charming residential neighbourhood has the best brunch culture in the city. Anna Blume cafΓ© (Kollwitzstraße) is set inside a flower shop and serves legendary weekend brunch plates β€” eggs, smoked salmon, bread, and flowers on every table. A quintessential Berlin morning.

πŸ’‘ Anna Blume has queues on Sunday brunch β€” arrive before 11:00 or after 13:00 to minimise the wait. The flower-shop setting is genuinely beautiful.

BER Airport departure45 mins$5

FEX from Hauptbahnhof to BER in 30 minutes. Allow 2 hours for international departures. BER is large but efficiently run.
