HYROX Dubai is held at the Dubai World Trade Centre or Dubai Exhibition Centre โ one of the region's largest indoor arena complexes. January/February delivers ideal conditions: mild temperatures and low humidity make this one of the most popular HYROX stops on the global calendar. The weekend blends elite fitness competition with the spectacle of Dubai: world-class hotels, iconic architecture, and a buzzing athlete village. Day 1 is the mandatory HYROX Expo for bib collection and exhibitor exploration. Day 2 is race day โ heats from 08:00 to 18:00. Day 3 is recovery with the full Dubai experience.
Your 3-day itinerary
Arrival & HYROX Expo
Morning
Dubai International is one of the world's busiest airports with excellent connectivity. The Dubai Metro Red Line connects directly to the city centre in 30 minutes. Taxis and ride-hail (Careem, Uber) are plentiful and affordable from DXB.
๐ก The NOL card (AED 20) is worth buying for Metro travel โ tap in/out across your whole stay. Available at Metro stations.
The HYROX Expo opens from Friday morning. Collect your bib, timing chip, and athlete bag. The exhibitor hall features all major fitness brands โ HYROX-registered supplement sponsors, apparel, and equipment. Mandatory athlete check-in must be completed here.
๐ก Arrive early Friday to avoid Saturday morning expo crowds. Check your start wave assignment on the HYROX app before you arrive โ it helps plan your Saturday morning timing.
Afternoon
A 15-minute taxi from the DWTC, Dubai Marina is a stunning waterfront promenade lined with skyscrapers, restaurants, and yacht berths. A gentle 3โ4 km walk along the marina is perfect for the pre-race leg-loosening stroll every HYROX athlete needs on Friday afternoon.
๐ก Wear comfortable shoes โ you are on your feet a lot at the expo. Save the energy for tomorrow.
The 150m picture-frame structure on the border of old and new Dubai offers views of both the old city and modern skyline. The entrance is AED 50 (~$14) and queues are minimal on a Friday afternoon.
Evening
Pre-race meal should be carbohydrate-rich and familiar. Bice Mare (Italian, Souk Madinat) and Carluccio's (multiple locations) offer excellent pasta. Alternatively, most hotel restaurants offer a simple pasta or rice-based menu โ stick to what you know.
๐ก Dubai is an alcohol-free zone in many areas but restaurants in hotels serve alcohol. Skip alcohol entirely the night before โ hydration is more important than celebration tonight.
Where to eat
Expo food vendors or nearby cafรฉ: Keep it light โ simple carbs, no heavy protein or fibre.
Italian restaurant: High carbohydrate, low fibre. Pasta or risotto. No alcohol.
Race Day โ 8 Stations, 1 Goal
Heats run from 08:00 to 18:00 โ arrive at the venue 60 minutes before your assigned heat. Check your heat time on the HYROX app the evening before. Live leaderboards are visible on the HYROX app throughout the day. The SkiErg (station 1) sets the pace for your entire race โ treat it as a controlled warm-up, not a sprint. Athletes who go out hard on the SkiErg consistently fall apart at the Sled Push. Know your pace before you start.
Morning
Eat 2.5โ3 hours before your heat start time. Classic HYROX breakfast: oats with banana, or toast with peanut butter, black coffee, and 500ml water. The Dubai HYROX venue opens its transition area 60 minutes before the first heat at 08:00.
๐ก If you are in a late heat, sleep in and eat accordingly. Check your heat time on the HYROX app the night before โ late heat athletes should still arrive 60 minutes before their start.
The transition area opens 60 minutes before your heat. Rack your bag, set up your station (chalk, wrist wraps, belt if using). Walk the course layout if possible โ knowing the turn points for the 1km indoor running loop reduces cognitive load mid-race.
๐ก Bring your own chalk for the Farmers Carry bars and any grip work โ the venue may run out. A small zip-lock bag of chalk in your race bag is worth its weight.
Afternoon
8 x 1km runs alternating with 8 functional stations: SkiErg (1,000m) โ Sled Push (50m) โ Sled Pull (50m) โ Burpee Broad Jump (80m) โ Row (1,000m) โ Farmers Carry (200m) โ Sandbag Lunges (100m) โ Wall Balls (100 reps). Total ~10km running. The Dubai arena is loud, the crowd is electric, and the finish line atmosphere is exceptional.
๐ก The SkiErg (station 1) is the most deceptive โ it feels easy at race-start adrenaline. Go 15% easier than you think you need to. If you blow up on the SkiErg, the Sled Push will punish you. Pace is everything.
After finishing, collect your HYROX finisher medal and finisher t-shirt. The athlete village has recovery food, sponsors giving out samples, and the leaderboard display showing live results. Watch the elite waves if your heat is early โ the level of fitness on display is motivating.
๐ก Check the HYROX app for your official split times โ your time per station and run splits are all recorded and available within minutes of finishing.
Evening
You have earned the full Dubai experience. Zuma (Dubai International Financial Centre) is a Japanese robata grill โ protein-rich, flavourful, perfect for recovery. For something more relaxed, Comptoir 102 in Jumeirah does excellent grain bowls and healthy plates that replenish without overloading a tired gut.
๐ก Prioritise protein and carbohydrates at the recovery meal. Japanese food is particularly good post-race โ light on the gut, high in protein.
Where to eat
Hotel breakfast: Oats, banana, peanut butter โ no new foods on race morning.
Athlete village snacks: Sponsor-provided recovery food, energy drinks, and snacks are distributed in the finisher area.
Zuma or recovery restaurant: High protein recovery meal. Rehydrate throughout โ Dubai is dry even indoors.
Recovery & Departure
Morning
Your legs will be complaining. A gentle 20-minute walk in the morning air is better than lying still. Head to Downtown Dubai for coffee and the morning view of the Burj Khalifa before the tourist crowds arrive.
๐ก DOMS (delayed-onset muscle soreness) from HYROX peaks at 36โ48 hours post-race. Burpee Broad Jumps and Sandbag Lunges are the worst offenders โ your quads and glutes will protest every staircase.
The Dubai Mall at the base of the Burj Khalifa has an aquarium, ice rink, and 1,200+ shops. If your legs can manage, the At The Top observation deck (levels 124/125) gives a 360ยฐ panorama of the city. Book online in advance.
๐ก The Burj Khalifa fountain show runs every 30 minutes in the evenings, but the ground-level view from the Dubai Mall boardwalk is also spectacular mid-morning without the crowds.
Afternoon
A short taxi ride to Old Dubai's historic souks. The Gold Souk has over 300 shops displaying the world's highest concentration of gold jewellery โ even if you are not buying, it is a sensory experience unlike anywhere else. The Spice Souk next door fills the air with frankincense, saffron, and dried rose.
๐ก Bargaining is expected in the souks โ start at 60% of the first asking price. Walk away slowly if the price doesn't move.
Dubai International is a 20-minute Metro or taxi ride from most central hotels. Allow 2.5 hours before departure โ DXB Terminal 3 is enormous. Emirates gates are particularly distant.
Where to eat
Hotel breakfast: Most Dubai hotels include breakfast โ eat well for recovery.
Al Ustad Special Kabab or Ravi Restaurant: Dubai's most beloved cheap eat near Satwa โ incredible protein-heavy plates for recovery at street-food prices.
