HYROX New York

Push past your limits at the Javits Center β€” then run the High Line on aching legs.

Sat, 2 May 2026 Jacob K. Javits Center, New York 3 days Β· arrive Fri, 1 May 2026

HYROX New York is held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Hudson Yards β€” Manhattan's premier exhibition venue with 760,000 square feet of exhibition space. April in New York is mild (10–18Β°C) with occasional spring rain. New York is the highest-profile HYROX stop in North America β€” the field is large, the athlete village electric, and the buzz around the event reflects the city's intensity and competitiveness. Day 3 recovery includes the High Line elevated park, Chelsea Market, and an optional Central Park recovery jog β€” all easy on legs that are going to object loudly.

Your 3-day itinerary

1

Arrival & HYROX Expo

~$175

Morning

Arrive at JFK, Newark (EWR), or LaGuardia (LGA)1.5 hrs$10

JFK: AirTrain + A train subway to Manhattan takes 60–75 minutes ($8.25 all-in). Newark (EWR): NJ Transit train to Penn Station takes 30 minutes ($18). LaGuardia: bus M60 to Upper West Side or Astoria subway takes 45 minutes. Javits Center is on the far west side of Midtown Manhattan β€” M11 bus or 7 subway (34th St-Hudson Yards) are the best connections.

πŸ’‘ Get an OMNY contactless card or use your bank card β€” tap in/out on all NYC subway and bus services. An unlimited weekly MetroCard ($34) covers all subway and bus travel.

HYROX Expo β€” Jacob K. Javits Convention Center2 hrs

The Javits Center (11th Ave and 36th–41st Streets, Hudson Yards) is a landmark building with a glass-crystal faΓ§ade. The HYROX New York expo is one of the largest in North America β€” major fitness brands, HYROX merchandise, and demonstration areas. Bib collection, chip retrieval, and athlete check-in are all here.

πŸ’‘ The Javits Center is directly accessible via the 7 train (34th St-Hudson Yards station) or a 10-minute walk from Penn Station on 34th Street. Friday bib collection is far less crowded than Saturday.

Afternoon

High Line walk1.5 hrs

The elevated public park built on a disused freight railway is 2.33 km long and runs from Gansevoort Street (Meatpacking District) to 34th Street (Hudson Yards) β€” ending practically at the Javits Center. A flat, architecturally stunning, and crowd-friendly afternoon walk. Art installations change seasonally.

πŸ’‘ Walk the High Line south-to-north (Gansevoort to 34th St) to end near the Javits Center. The southern section through the Meatpacking District has the most vegetation and interesting design.

Chelsea Market1 hr$5

The converted Nabisco biscuit factory (birthplace of the Oreo) is a covered food market and shopping destination running an entire NYC block. Excellent food vendors, fishmonger, wine shops, and Chelsea Market Baskets. A pre-race browse without heavy eating.

Evening

Pre-race dinner β€” Hell's Kitchen or Chelsea2 hrs$50

Hell's Kitchen (9th and 10th Ave, 40s and 50s streets) is New York's most eclectic and affordable dining neighbourhood β€” minutes from the Javits Center. Excellent Italian options: Don Antonio by Starita (9th Ave) for Neapolitan pizza, or Mercato (9th Ave) for pasta. Large portions and pre-race carb loading built into every menu.

πŸ’‘ Hell's Kitchen has dozens of excellent restaurants without the tourist markup of Midtown. Walk along 9th Avenue and choose what looks right β€” the block from 44th to 52nd Street is the dining heart.

Where to eat

Diner near Penn Station or hotelbreakfastΒ· $16
Chelsea Market vendorlunchΒ· $18
Don Antonio or Mercato β€” Hell's KitchendinnerΒ· $50

Chelsea Market vendor: Excellent Los Tacos No.1 or The Lobster Place at Chelsea Market β€” but keep it light pre-race.

Don Antonio or Mercato β€” Hell's Kitchen: High carb pre-race. New York pizza is world-class β€” this is earned fuel.

2

Race Day β€” 8 Stations, 1 Goal

~$230

Heats run from 08:00 to 18:00 β€” arrive at the Javits Center 60 minutes before your assigned heat. Check your heat time on the HYROX app the evening before. Live leaderboards update in real time on the HYROX app. The SkiErg (station 1) sets the pace for your entire race β€” New York athletes are intense and the temptation to go out hard in the first heat is significant. Trust your training pace. The race is decided in the second half.

Morning

Pre-race breakfast30 mins$16

Eat 2.5–3 hours before your heat. New York has excellent 24-hour diners β€” a bowl of oatmeal, eggs on toast, and black coffee from any diner near your hotel is ideal. Avoid the bagel with lox (too much fat and protein) on race morning β€” stick to simple carbs.

πŸ’‘ New York delis and bodegas are open before 06:00 β€” grab a banana and coffee if your heat is early and hotel breakfast is not running yet.

Walk or subway to Javits Center β€” Transition area45 mins$3

The Javits Center is walkable from most Midtown hotels. The transition area opens 60 minutes before each heat. New York's HYROX field is competitive and fast β€” the warm-up area will be busy. Arrive with enough time to activate, chalk up, and mentally prepare.

πŸ’‘ New York athletes are intensely competitive and the heat atmosphere at the Javits Center is high-energy from the first wave. Do not let the crowd energy pull you into a pace you haven't trained for β€” run your own race.

Afternoon

HYROX Race β€” New York1.5–2.5 hrs

8 x 1km runs alternating with 8 functional stations: SkiErg β†’ Sled Push β†’ Sled Pull β†’ Burpee Broad Jump β†’ Row β†’ Farmers Carry β†’ Sandbag Lunges β†’ Wall Balls. The Javits Center's high ceilings and wide halls make for one of the best HYROX course setups on the circuit. The New York crowd is loud, passionate, and deeply familiar with fitness competition.

πŸ’‘ The Row station (1,000m on a Concept2 rower) is at station 5 β€” by this point you have already done ~5km of running and 4 functional stations. Train the Row in a fatigued state (post-run, not fresh). Damper setting 4–5 is the most efficient for 1,000m β€” avoid damper 10 which burns out your legs.

Athlete village β€” Javits Center2 hrs

The New York athlete village is well-funded with major sponsor activations. The finisher medal and t-shirt station is particularly well-run at this event. Live results on the HYROX app, photo booth, and post-race stretching area.

πŸ’‘ Check your HYROX app for your official results immediately after finishing β€” the split times show exactly where you gained or lost time against your category.

Evening

Recovery dinner β€” West Village or Tribeca2 hrs$80

The West Village has the most pleasant post-race neighbourhood in Manhattan β€” leafy streets, excellent restaurants, and a more relaxed pace than Midtown. Via Carota (Grove Street) is widely considered one of New York's best Italian restaurants β€” simple, perfectly executed. Carbone (Thompson Street) is the theatrical Italian-American landmark. Book months ahead for both.

πŸ’‘ Via Carota does not take reservations β€” arrive at 17:30 when they open to guarantee a table. The cacio e pepe and roasted chicken are exceptional recovery plates.

Where to eat

NYC diner oatmealbreakfastΒ· $16
Athlete village recovery packslunch
Via Carota or West Village restaurantdinnerΒ· $80

NYC diner oatmeal: Oatmeal, banana, black coffee β€” available at any NYC diner from 06:00.

Athlete village recovery packs: Sponsor-distributed in the finisher area.

Via Carota or West Village restaurant: Book months ahead for Via Carota. Arrive at 17:30 for walk-in tables.

3

Recovery & Departure

~$160

Morning

Central Park recovery walk or gentle jog1 hr

Central Park's 6.1 km inner loop is flat and rubberised β€” ideal for a 30-minute post-HYROX jog if your legs cooperate, or a gentle walking circuit with coffee if they do not. The park in April has cherry blossoms and spring flowers. The Reservoir Loop (2.6 km) is a particularly beautiful morning option.

πŸ’‘ HYROX DOMS (especially from Burpee Broad Jumps and Sandbag Lunges) peaks 36–48 hours post-race. Do not attempt to run fast β€” a gentle jog or walk is the right prescription.

High Line final stretch + Hudson Yards1 hr

If you did not walk the High Line on Day 1, today is the perfect recovery activity β€” flat, scenic, and ending at Hudson Yards (The Vessel and Edge observation deck). Or revisit the best section between 10th and 20th Streets.

Afternoon

Chelsea Market brunch1.5 hrs$30

A proper recovery brunch at Chelsea Market β€” Amy's Bread for pastries, The Lobster Place for excellent seafood, or Sarabeth's for the classic New York brunch experience. High protein, high satisfaction, and close to the High Line.

πŸ’‘ New York bagels at the airport are always a poor substitute β€” eat a proper bagel with lox and cream cheese at a real NYC deli before you leave.

JFK / EWR / LGA departure1 hr$12

Allow 3 hours before international departure from JFK, 2.5 hours for domestic. JFK AirTrain + A train is the most reliable option. Newark NJ Transit is excellent. Avoid road taxis β€” New York traffic is unpredictable and expensive.

Where to eat

NYC coffee shop near Central ParkbreakfastΒ· $12
Chelsea Market or deli brunchlunchΒ· $30

Chelsea Market or deli brunch: Bagel with lox and cream cheese β€” the essential New York departure meal.

Local tips

  • Β·New York is the most expensive HYROX city on this list β€” budget $250–350/day for accommodation, food, and transport in Manhattan.
  • Β·Hell's Kitchen (9th and 10th Ave, 40s–50s) is the best value dining neighbourhood near the Javits Center β€” excellent food at half the price of tourist Midtown.
  • Β·Train the Burpee Broad Jump on every long training day β€” it is the station that breaks New York athletes mid-race more than any other.
  • Β·The Concept2 rower damper setting significantly affects your 1,000m time β€” practise at damper 4–5, not at 10.
  • Β·New York taxis and rideshare surge-price dramatically on large event days β€” subway and walking are faster and cheaper near the Javits Center.
  • Β·Bring chalk for every station β€” with thousands of athletes, shared chalk runs out. Your own supply is non-negotiable at the Wall Balls and Farmers Carry.
