Arrival — Denpasar to Ubud & School Orientation
Monday, September 6
Est. spend
$97

🌅 Morning
Arrive Denpasar Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS)
Ngurah Rai International Airport, Jl. Airport Ngurah Rai, Kuta, Badung, Bali
Fly into Denpasar — Bali's only international airport. Clear immigration (visa on arrival available for most nationalities, IDR 500,000 / ~$30), collect bags, and arrange transport to Ubud.
Pre-book a private car transfer from the airport to Ubud — approximately $25–35 and takes 1.5–2 hrs depending on traffic. Avoid the airport taxi touts and use a reputable online booking.
Transfer Denpasar to Ubud
Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80571
The drive from the airport to Ubud takes you through Kuta, Seminyak, and the transition from Bali's beach resort strip to the cultural heartland. Arrive in Ubud's lush green landscape — the contrast is immediate.
April traffic in Bali can be slow through Kuta and Seminyak — allow 2 hours. Ask your driver to take the bypass route.
☀️ Afternoon
Check In at YTT School or Nearby Guesthouse
Ubud centre or Ubud area yoga school — confirm with your school
Many 200-hour YTT programmes in Ubud include shared or private accommodation on-site or partner guesthouses — check what your school includes. Room, meals, and daily yoga are often bundled in the course fee.
If accommodation is not included, stay within a 10-minute walk of your school — 06:00 morning practice requires proximity.
YTT School Orientation & Welcome Ceremony
Your YTT school, Ubud
Most Ubud schools open YTT with a traditional Balinese welcome ceremony — a brief purification ritual with offerings, incense, and holy water. Meet your teachers and fellow trainees. Receive your course schedule, materials, and accommodation allocation.
Dress modestly for the welcome ceremony — a sarong (provided by the school or purchased at the market for $3) is appropriate for any temple or ceremonial context in Bali.
🌙 Evening
Introductory Dinner with YTT Cohort
YTT school or nearby warung, Ubud
Dinner with your fellow trainees — a chance to introduce yourself, learn where everyone is from, and set intentions for the two weeks ahead. Many schools provide dinner on Day 1. If not, the warung (small local restaurant) near most Ubud schools serve excellent Indonesian home cooking.
The YTT community is genuinely international — you will meet people from 15+ countries in a typical Ubud training cohort. These connections often last years.
🍽️ Meals
Airport or in-transit
Indonesian · $8 · Nasi goreng (fried rice) is available at the airport and is the Indonesian standard breakfast.
Roadside warung during transfer
Balinese · $5 · Ask your driver to stop at a local warung en route to Ubud — you'll see immediately how different local food is from tourist restaurant food.
YTT school welcome dinner
Indonesian / vegetarian · $12 · Many YTT programmes provide vegetarian or plant-based meals as part of the course — confirm with your school.
YTT Week 1 Begins — Asana Foundations & Afternoon Free
Tuesday, September 7
Est. spend
$36

🌅 Morning
Morning Sadhana — 06:00 Opening Practice
YTT school shala (yoga hall), Ubud
The first morning practice: led by the senior teacher, typically 90 minutes of pranayama (breathing), sun salutations, and opening asana sequence. This sets the daily rhythm for the entire programme. The Ubud dawn — mist over rice terraces, roosters, temple bells — is unlike any other yoga environment.
Come to the mat hydrated. Morning practice in Bali is warm and humid — you will sweat heavily even in the first session.
Asana Training — Alignment & Adjustment Technique
YTT school shala, Ubud
Formal asana training session: standing poses, alignment principles, verbal cueing practice, and hands-on adjustment technique. The teacher will work in pairs — one student teaches while the other receives. This is the core of the teaching methodology curriculum.
Take detailed notes in every session — you will refer to them when you begin teaching. A dedicated notebook for asana cues and anatomy notes is essential.
☀️ Afternoon
Philosophy & Yoga Sutras Session
YTT school classroom, Ubud
The afternoon philosophy session introduces Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the eight limbs of yoga (Ashtanga), and the ethics of yoga teaching. This is the theoretical backbone of the YTT — often transformative for students approaching yoga as a physical practice only.
Read the first chapter of the Yoga Sutras before this session if possible — it is short and available free online. Having the framework in advance makes the class session far richer.
Ubud Monkey Forest
Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali 80571
On rest from formal sessions — the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a 12-hectare nature reserve inside Ubud housing 700 long-tailed macaques across three ancient Hindu temples. A fascinating contrast: spiritual and chaotic simultaneously.
Do not bring food visibly — monkeys will take it and can scratch. Secure earrings, glasses, and hair accessories. The temple areas inside are genuinely beautiful and worth exploring beyond the monkey watching.
🌙 Evening
Evening Practice & Group Dinner
YTT school, Ubud
Evening asana practice (typically 75 minutes) and group dinner. Many YTT cohorts eat together throughout the training — this is where bonds form. Talk about what you learned today, what surprised you, what felt difficult.
Go to bed by 21:30. The 06:00 morning practice is non-negotiable — and sustainable sleep is critical for a 14-day intensive.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian / vegetarian · $0 · Most YTT programmes include breakfast — tropical fruit, porridge, eggs. Confirm with your school.
School lunch between sessions
Indonesian / vegetarian · $0 · Lunch is typically included in the course fee. Nasi campur (mixed rice with vegetables and tempeh) is the standard.
Group dinner at school or local warung
Balinese · $12 · If not included: local warungs near all Ubud yoga schools serve excellent rice-based meals for IDR 30,000–60,000 ($2–4).
YTT Week 1 — Teaching Practicum Begins
Wednesday, September 8

🌅 Morning
Morning Sadhana + Pranayama Deep Dive
YTT school shala, Ubud
Day 3 morning practice shifts focus to pranayama: nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), kapalabhati (skull-shining breath), and ujjayi (victorious breath). These are the breath foundations that underpin all vinyasa teaching.
Pranayama practice can produce strong physical and emotional responses — light-headedness, warmth, or unexpected emotional releases are normal. Tell your teacher if anything feels overwhelming.
First Teaching Practicum — Teach 5 Minutes to Peers
YTT school shala, Ubud
Each student teaches a 5-minute sequence to the group — their first formal teaching experience. Simple standing sequence, clear verbal cues, eye contact. The group provides structured feedback. This is the most uncomfortable and most valuable session of the first week.
Everyone is nervous — including the confident ones. The feedback you receive in your first practicum is the most useful information of the entire course.
☀️ Afternoon
Anatomy for Yoga Teachers — Session 1
YTT school classroom, Ubud
Introduction to anatomy in the context of yoga: skeletal structure, joint range of motion, contraindications for common poses. Understanding why certain adjustments help some bodies and harm others. Critical knowledge for safe teaching.
The anatomy curriculum is the section most students underestimate. Take it seriously — an anatomy-informed yoga teacher is significantly safer and more effective.
Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest — Temple Exploration
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Ubud
Return to the Monkey Forest's inner temple areas for a quieter, more contemplative visit than the tourist surface experience. Three Hindu temples within the forest: Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, Pura Beji, and Pura Prajapati — all active places of Balinese Hindu worship.
Sarong required inside temple areas — school will have one you can borrow. Ask your anatomy teacher about the spiritual anatomy of the chakra system — it complements today's physical anatomy session well.
🌙 Evening
Meditation Session — Yoga Nidra
YTT school shala, Ubud
Evening guided Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) — a 45-minute deeply restorative meditation that induces a hypnagogic state between waking and sleep. One of the most powerful recovery tools available to intensive programme students. Most YTT students report the best sleep of their lives after Yoga Nidra.
Wear warm layers for Yoga Nidra — body temperature drops significantly in stillness. Bring a blanket.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian · $0 · As provided by the school programme.
School lunch
Vegetarian Indonesian · $0 · As provided by the school programme.
Warung dinner near school
Balinese · $8 · Explore one new warung each evening — ask fellow students for recommendations.

🌅 Morning
Morning Practice + Backbend Workshop
YTT school shala, Ubud
Day 4 asana focus: the backbend family — Bhujangasana (cobra), Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (upward dog), Ustrasana (camel), Urdhva Dhanurasana (wheel). Contraindications, safe adjustment techniques, and modifications for different bodies.
Backbends are the peak poses that beginners most often injure themselves in. Learn today's contraindications thoroughly — they will protect your future students.
Teaching Methodology — Class Structure & Sequencing
YTT school classroom, Ubud
How to structure a 60-minute yoga class: opening, warm-up, standing sequence, peak pose, cool-down, savasana. The mathematical logic of building a class. Practice writing your own sequence.
Write a complete 60-minute sequence today using today's template. You'll teach it in next week's practicum.
☀️ Afternoon
Tirta Empul — Sacred Water Temple
Jl. Tirta, Tampaksiring, Gianyar, Bali 80552
Bali's most sacred Hindu water temple — a natural spring temple where worshippers purify themselves in the holy spring water channelled through carved stone spouts. Visitors of any faith may participate in the melukat purification ritual with appropriate dress and respectful intention.
Bring a sarong (IDR 20,000 rental available at the gate). Arrive early afternoon (14:00) to avoid tour groups. The melukat ritual requires moving through 13 spouts in sequence — ask a temple attendant to guide you respectfully.
Tampaksiring Village Walk
Tampaksiring village, Gianyar Regency, Bali
The village around Tirta Empul produces traditional ikat and batik textiles — artisans work in open workshops visible from the street. Watch the hand-loom weaving process and browse the fabric stalls. An honest look at Balinese craft tradition.
Prices are fixed in some craft cooperatives and negotiable in individual stalls. A hand-woven ikat scarf makes a meaningful souvenir of the trip.
🌙 Evening
Evening Practice + Reflective Journalling
YTT school shala, Ubud
After today's temple visit, the evening practice takes on extra depth. End with 20 minutes of guided reflective journalling — schools often provide prompts connecting the day's physical practice to the philosophical and spiritual encounters.
Many students find the mid-course period (days 4–6) the most emotionally intense — the practices begin to work deeply and surfaces things. This is expected and supported.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
School lunch
Vegetarian Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
Dinner near temple — local warung
Balinese · $10 · Warungs near Tirta Empul serve excellent nasi campur — eat before returning to Ubud.
YTT Week 1 — Inversions, Hip Openers & Afternoon Rest
Friday, September 10
Est. spend
$24
per person
🌅 Morning
Morning Sadhana + Inversion Workshop
YTT school shala, Ubud
Day 5 focus: inversions — Sirsasana (headstand), Sarvangasana (shoulderstand), Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward dog as a mini-inversion). Safety, contraindications, and wall-assisted practice. Many students experience their first unsupported headstand this week.
Never force inversions — a student who is menstruating, has high blood pressure, glaucoma, or neck injuries should not invert. Today's contraindications are directly teachable to future students.
Hip Opening Sequence & Yin Yoga Introduction
YTT school shala, Ubud
Hip-opening yin sequence: Pigeon, Dragon, Sleeping Swan — poses held for 3–5 minutes each to access the deeper connective tissue. Yin yoga theory: the meridian system, fascia, and the difference between yin and yang yoga styles.
Yin yoga is deceptively challenging — the stillness and long holds surface psychological resistance as much as physical. Notice what your mind does during a 5-minute pigeon hold.
☀️ Afternoon
Anatomy Session 2 — The Spine, Hips & Hamstrings
YTT school classroom, Ubud
The anatomy of the lower body: lumbar spine function, hip joint anatomy, hamstring origin and attachment. Learn the most common yoga-related injuries and how sequencing and cueing prevent them. Case studies of common misadjustments and their consequences.
The single most common yoga injury is the hamstring origin tear — caused by lunging too deep too fast. This session explains why and how to prevent it.
Rest & Self-Practice
YTT school garden or room, Ubud
Scheduled free time in the programme — use it for personal practice, review of notes, reading your asana manual, or simply lying in a hammock. The body needs consolidation time during an intensive.
Resist the urge to 'do more yoga' during rest time. Consolidation and recovery are part of the learning process.
🌙 Evening
Ubud Night Market & Dinner
Ubud Traditional Market, Jalan Raya Ubud, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali
Ubud's night market (Pasar Malam Ubud) on Jalan Suweta comes alive after 18:00 — fresh Balinese food, local satay, roasted corn, and babi guling (suckling pig, Bali's most famous dish). A communal, affordable, and genuinely local evening.
Babi guling is not vegetarian — many YTT students have adopted plant-based diets by week 2. If you're omnivore, Ibu Oka near the Ubud Palace is the most famous babi guling restaurant in Bali.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
School lunch
Vegetarian · $0 · As provided by school.
Ubud night market
Balinese street food · $12 · Budget IDR 80,000–150,000 for a full market dinner — several small dishes is the way to eat.
YTT Week 1 Rest Day — Tegalalang Rice Terraces
Saturday, September 11
Est. spend
$98
per person
🌅 Morning
Tegalalang Rice Terrace Walk
Jl. Raya Tegallalang, Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali 80561
The most photographed rice terraces in Bali — Subak irrigation system water flows through carved terraces in the morning light. Walk the paths between the paddies, watch farmers working, and understand the 1,000-year-old Subak communal irrigation system (UNESCO Intangible Heritage).
Arrive before 08:00 for the best light and before tour buses arrive. The ridge path above the terraces gives the best views — follow the signs for 'swing' (even if you don't use them) for the high viewpoint.
Coffee & Jungle Breakfast at a Tegalalang Warung
Tegalalang warung strip, above the rice terraces
Sit at one of the small warungs overlooking the terraces and drink Kopi Bali (Balinese coffee — powdered, not filtered) with a coconut pancake breakfast. The view at 08:00 with mist in the valley is among the finest in Southeast Asia.
Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) stalls are everywhere on this road — the civet cat farming practice is largely inhumane. Regular Kopi Bali is equally delicious and ethically uncomplicated.
☀️ Afternoon
Ubud Art Market & Sacred Art Museum (ARMA)
Ubud Art Market, Jalan Raya Ubud; ARMA, Jalan Raya Pengosekan
Ubud's art market (Pasar Seni Ubud) sells Balinese paintings, wood carvings, batik fabrics, and silver jewellery. Then visit the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) — one of Bali's finest private collections of classical and modern Balinese and Indonesian art.
Bargaining is expected at Pasar Seni — start at 50% of the asking price and expect to settle around 65–70%. ARMA has a beautiful garden café for afternoon tea.
Rest & Recovery — School Pool or Gardens
YTT school, Ubud
The rest day is designed for recovery from 5 days of intensive practice. Many schools have pools, gardens, or hammock areas for students. Foam roll, stretch gently, nap if needed. Tomorrow is the second week.
DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) typically peaks on days 2–4 of intensive yoga training. By day 6, most students begin to feel the practice opening rather than damaging. Listen to your body.
🌙 Evening
Kecak Fire Dance — Uluwatu or Ubud Palace
Ubud Royal Palace, Jalan Raya Ubud, Ubud / or Pura Luhur Uluwatu, Pecatu, Badung
The Kecak dance — a traditional Balinese performance retelling the Ramayana through chanting, fire, and elaborate costume — performed at sunset at Pura Uluwatu (1.5 hrs south) or at Ubud Royal Palace most evenings. An extraordinary cultural experience that sits alongside the YTT philosophy curriculum.
The Ubud Palace Kecak performance (20:00 most evenings) is more convenient during YTT. Uluwatu's cliff-top sunset version is more spectacular but requires a 3-hour round trip.
🍽️ Meals
Tegalalang warung breakfast
Balinese · $10 · Eat at the terraces — the view is free with the food.
ARMA museum café lunch
Indonesian · $15 · The ARMA café is garden-side and beautiful — slightly pricier than warungs but excellent quality.
Pre-dance dinner near Ubud Palace
Indonesian · $15 · Arrive for dinner at 18:30 before the 20:00 Kecak performance. Numerous good restaurants on Jalan Raya Ubud.
Mid-Course Break Day — Balinese Cooking Class & Balian Healer
Sunday, September 12
Est. spend
$101
per person
🌅 Morning
Traditional Balinese Cooking Class
Ubud cooking schools — multiple operators near central Ubud
A 3-hour hands-on cooking class at a Ubud cooking school — market visit, spice paste grinding, and cooking 4–5 traditional Balinese dishes: lawar, sate lilit, jukut urab, and black rice pudding. Directly connects to the YTT dietary philosophy curriculum.
Paon Bali and Lobong Culinary Experience are two well-regarded Ubud cooking schools. Book 1–2 days ahead — popular with YTT students.
Ubud Market Pre-Cooking Visit
Pasar Ubud (Ubud Traditional Market), Jalan Raya Ubud
Most cooking classes begin with a guided market walk through Pasar Ubud — the teacher identifies vegetables, spices, and herbs. This morning market is the real Ubud, not the tourist surface.
The market is most active 06:00–09:00. The cooking class market walk is typically 07:30 — check with your school.
☀️ Afternoon
Session with a Balian (Traditional Balinese Healer)
Various — ask your YTT school for a trusted Balian recommendation
A Balian is a traditional Balinese healer — a practitioner of spiritual and physical healing using massage, herbs, prayer, and divination. A session is 45–90 minutes and deeply tied to the spiritual philosophy being studied in the YTT. This is a genuine cultural encounter, not a tourist performance.
Your YTT school will have contacts with reputable Balian practitioners — ask your teacher before booking independently. Bring an offering (canang sari) bought at a market stall (IDR 5,000). Be respectful: this is a sacred practice.
Afternoon Integration — Journalling & Rest
YTT school garden or room, Ubud
After the Balian session, rest and journal. The mid-course break is intentionally placed at day 7 to allow physical and emotional integration before the second week's advanced teaching methodology curriculum.
Many students report this day as the most emotionally significant of the programme. The combination of a full week's intensive practice plus the Balian session surfaces unexpected things. This is the process.
🌙 Evening
Group Dinner — Week 1 Reflection
Ubud restaurant — choose together as a group
Informal group dinner with fellow trainees to mark the end of week 1. Many YTT cohorts have a ritual for this evening — sharing what the first week brought up, expressing gratitude, or setting intentions for week 2. A deeply connecting ritual.
A longer, slightly more generous dinner tonight is appropriate — you've earned it after 6 days of intensive practice.
🍽️ Meals
Cooking class breakfast (eaten during class)
Balinese · $0 · Included in the cooking class — you eat what you cook.
Cooking class lunch (what you cooked)
Balinese · $0 · Included in the cooking class. A full Balinese meal prepared by your own hands.
Group dinner — Week 1 celebration
Indonesian / International · $18 · Choose a restaurant as a group — slightly more generous than a warung is appropriate tonight.
YTT Week 2 Begins — Advanced Teaching Methodology
Monday, September 13

🌅 Morning
Opening Week 2 Practice — Full Vinyasa Flow
YTT school shala, Ubud
Week 2 begins with a longer, more advanced morning practice led by the senior teacher — a full vinyasa class at the level students will be expected to teach by the end of the week. Students are stronger than day 1; the increase in ability after one week is measurable and motivating.
Notice the difference from Day 2 morning practice. The progress in one week of daily practice is remarkable — this is useful evidence to share with future students.
Advanced Teaching Methodology — Voice, Touch & Demonstration
YTT school classroom and shala, Ubud
Week 2 curriculum focus: the three modes of yoga instruction — verbal cueing (most important), hands-on adjustment (most discussed), and demonstration (most over-used). Developing a teaching voice, building command and calm presence simultaneously.
Record yourself teaching in practicum sessions if the school allows it. Watching your own teaching is uncomfortable but invaluable.
☀️ Afternoon
Extended Practicum — Teach 20 Minutes to Peers
YTT school shala, Ubud
Each student teaches a 20-minute class to the group — the step up from week 1's 5-minute sequence. Full opening, warm-up, three peak poses, and a short savasana. Detailed group feedback follows each teaching.
Use the sequence you wrote in Day 3's methodology session. The sequence is secondary to your presence, eye contact, and voice.
Ubud Sunset at Campuhan Ridge Walk
Campuhan Ridge Walk, start at Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas, Jalan Raya Campuhan, Ubud
The Campuhan Ridge Walk — a 2km path across the ridge above the confluence of two sacred rivers — is Ubud's best free sunset walk. The path is walkable from the town centre and takes you into rice fields and bamboo groves.
Start at 17:00 for golden hour light. The path is flat to rolling — no difficult terrain. Carry water.
🌙 Evening
Evening Practice & Study Group
YTT school, Ubud
Evening practice plus optional study group for tomorrow's anatomy exam. Week 2 typically includes a formal anatomy assessment — study groups of 2–3 students are more effective than solo studying for this type of applied knowledge.
Test each other by naming muscle attachments and contraindications out loud. Verbal recall mirrors the way you'll use this knowledge when teaching.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
School lunch
Vegetarian Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
Warung dinner post-ridge walk
Balinese · $10 · Small warungs at the end of the Campuhan walk serve excellent local food at local prices.
YTT Week 2 — Anatomy Assessment & Jatiluwih UNESCO Terraces
Tuesday, September 14
Est. spend
$65

🌅 Morning
Morning Practice + Arm Balance Workshop
YTT school shala, Ubud
Crow pose (Bakasana), Side Crow (Parsva Bakasana), and Firefly (Tittibhasana) — the arm balance family. Alignment, foundational strength requirements, and the exact cue sequence that helps students access their first arm balance. Arm balances are confidence-building milestones for students.
The key to Crow pose is not arm strength — it's hip flexor engagement and forward weight shift. This counter-intuitive cue is worth learning precisely: it unlocks the pose for students who have been 'trying harder' without success.
Anatomy Written Assessment
YTT school classroom, Ubud
The formal anatomy assessment — typically 30 multiple-choice questions on skeletal structures, joint function, and contraindications for specific yoga poses. Completed in the classroom before the afternoon activity.
The assessment is pass/fail in most programmes — not graded. The questions are practical, not academic. If you studied the case studies, you will pass.
☀️ Afternoon
Jatiluwih UNESCO Rice Terraces
Jatiluwih, Tabanan Regency, Bali (45km from Ubud, 1hr drive)
Jatiluwih ("truly marvellous" in Balinese) is a 600-hectare expanse of organic rice terrace inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 for the Subak irrigation system. Unlike the more touristy Tegalalang, Jatiluwih feels genuinely remote and vast — a different scale entirely.
Hire a driver for the round trip (IDR 300,000–400,000). The 3km walking trail through the terraces is the best way to experience them — flat path through active rice paddies. Go in the afternoon when the light is directional.
Post-Terrace Reflection Walk
Jatiluwih terrace walking paths, Tabanan
Walk the tertiary paths around the base of the Jatiluwih terraces where Balinese farmers are working. The scale of the traditional agricultural system — unchanged for a millennium — puts the philosophy classroom in physical context.
Ask your driver to wait at the village end of the trail while you walk from the entrance — the path is one-directional.
🌙 Evening
Return to Ubud & Evening Practice
YTT school shala, Ubud
Return from Jatiluwih to Ubud for evening practice. The 1-hour drive through Bali's interior — passing Hindu temples, bamboo forests, and small farming villages — is decompressing in itself.
Yin practice tonight — after the arm balance morning and the driving afternoon, the connective tissue needs lengthening, not loading.
🍽️ Meals
School breakfast
Indonesian · $0 · As provided by school.
Lunch at Jatiluwih — terrace-side warung
Balinese · $10 · Simple warungs at Jatiluwih serve rice and local vegetables grown in the adjacent paddies.
School or nearby warung dinner
Indonesian · $8 · As provided by school or a nearby warung after evening practice.
YTT Week 2 — Restorative Yoga & Assisting Workshop
Wednesday, September 15
Est. spend
$35
per person
🌅 Morning
Morning Practice + Restorative Yoga Training
YTT school shala, Ubud
Restorative yoga: how to sequence, prop, and teach classes for students in recovery, stress, injury, or trauma. This is one of the most valuable and undersupplied teaching skills — there is significant demand for well-trained restorative teachers globally.
Restorative yoga requires more props per student than any other style — bolsters, blankets, blocks, eye pillows. Understand what the minimum viable prop setup looks like for a home or studio context.
Hands-On Adjustment Masterclass
YTT school shala, Ubud
A dedicated workshop on the ethics and technique of hands-on adjustment: consent protocol, the difference between therapeutic and directive touch, holds that help versus holds that harm. Practised in pairs with full feedback.
The consent conversation ('I offer hands-on adjustments — would you like to receive them today?') is mandatory in professional teaching. Practice saying it until it is natural.
☀️ Afternoon
Philosophy — Yoga Nidra Teaching Practicum
YTT school shala, Ubud
Each student leads a 15-minute Yoga Nidra for the group — writing the script the night before. Voice, pace, and the quality of silence between instructions are the primary skills. A completely different teaching challenge from asana instruction.
Read your Yoga Nidra script aloud to yourself the night before, timing it with pauses. The written script always reads faster than the spoken version — build in more silence than you think you need.
Ubud Palace & Traditional Performances Research
Puri Saren Agung, Jalan Raya Ubud, Ubud, Gianyar
Walk through the Ubud Royal Palace (Puri Saren Agung) grounds — still an active royal residence — and check the evening performance schedule. Legong dance, Barong, or Kecak are performed most evenings in the palace courtyard. A living cultural institution.
Palace performances cost IDR 75,000–100,000 per person. The Legong is the most refined and worth seeing if you haven't caught Kecak yet.
🌙 Evening
Evening Practice & Final Week Preparation
YTT school shala, Ubud
Evening practice and briefing on the final teaching practicum format — the culminating 30-minute taught class in week 2's final days. Students receive their practicum assignment topics.
Start sketching your final practicum sequence tonight. Write it out in full before Day 12's practice run.
🍽️ Meals

🌅 Morning
Morning Practice + Chakra System Deep Dive
YTT school shala, Ubud
The chakra (energy centre) system: a morning practice designed around the seven chakras with corresponding asana sequences, mantras, and mudras. This session connects the physical practice studied all week to the deeper energetic architecture of yoga philosophy.
The chakra system is not scientifically validated in Western medicine — hold this information as a useful map rather than biological fact. Many students find it surprisingly applicable to their experience.
The Business of Yoga — How to Teach Professionally
YTT school classroom, Ubud
A practical curriculum module: setting rates, understanding insurance requirements for yoga teachers, the difference between RYT-200 and RYT-500 designations, continuing education, teaching in studios vs. independently vs. online.
Yoga Alliance membership ($115/year) is the standard professional registration that unlocks teaching opportunities globally. Ask your teacher whether your school's certificate qualifies you to register — it should if they are a Yoga Alliance RYS 200.
☀️ Afternoon
Final Practicum Sequence Practice — Peer Review
YTT school shala, Ubud
Run your full final practicum sequence with a partner for feedback before the formal assessment. This is a mock run — identify what needs refinement, what feels unclear, where your voice drops.
Video yourself in this practice run — the camera catches things partners miss.
Silver Jewellery Workshop — Celuk Village
Celuk village, Sukawati, Gianyar Regency, Bali
Celuk, 8km south of Ubud, is Bali's silversmithing village — family workshops produce traditional Balinese filigree jewellery using techniques unchanged for generations. Some workshops offer 2–3 hour introductory silversmithing sessions.
The silversmithing session produces a piece you take home — a meaningful souvenir of the trip. Book through your driver or the school.
🌙 Evening
Quiet Final Preparation Evening
YTT school or accommodation room, Ubud
The night before the final practicum: review your sequence, practice transitions, speak your cues aloud, and get to sleep by 21:30. The body performs better with adequate sleep than with extra preparation.
Write your sequence on a small index card as a memory prompt — not to read from, but to glance at if you blank during the final teaching.

The second-to-last group morning practice — led by the senior teacher with space for students to observe the pacing and sequencing of a professional class before their own finals. Notice what 12 days of daily practice has done to your body and perception.
Eat lightly before practice on assessment day. Nerves and a full stomach don't combine well.
Final Teaching Practicum — 30-Minute Taught Class
YTT school shala, Ubud
Each student teaches a full 30-minute class to the group — the culminating assessment of the 200-hour programme. Evaluated on: clarity of verbal cues, sequencing logic, use of demonstrations and adjustments, safety awareness, and presence. Full teacher and peer feedback given after each class.
The first 60 seconds determines the atmosphere for the class. Begin with a grounded, clear opening — a brief welcome, an invitation to settle, a conscious breath together. Do not rush.
☀️ Afternoon
Written Theory Assessment & Philosophy Exam
YTT school classroom, Ubud
The written theory assessment: yoga philosophy, teaching methodology, anatomy summary, and ethical guidelines for yoga teachers. Typically 60 minutes, open-book in some programmes. Most students pass on their first attempt if they engaged with the curriculum.
Bring your annotated notes. The questions test applied understanding, not memorisation — think practically.
Free Afternoon — Personal Practice or Rest
Ubud and surrounding rice fields
After the exams, free time in Ubud. Many students use this afternoon for a long lunch, a final massage, or a solo walk through the rice fields. Decompress.
The rice field walk path starting near Subak Museum (Jalan Raya Mas) is less crowded than the Campuhan Ridge and equally beautiful.
🌙 Evening
Pre-Graduation Dinner — Course Faculty & Cohort
Arranged by YTT school, Ubud
A celebratory dinner with teachers and the full cohort — usually organised by the school. Speeches, stories, and a genuine sense of completion. This community will often stay in contact long after returning home.
Many schools choose a restaurant in central Ubud's garden dining strip. Alaya Resort Restaurant, Room4Dessert, or Locavore (book well ahead for the last) are Ubud's finest.

Graduation Ceremony
YTT school shala, Ubud
The 200-hour YTT graduation: certificate presentation, individual acknowledgement from teachers, a closing ceremony usually including a candle ritual or traditional Balinese blessing. The transition from student to teacher. Bring something to offer — a flower, a personal intention.
Dress in white if the school follows that tradition. Take photos with every teacher and fellow student — these relationships last.
Yoga Alliance Registration
yogaalliance.org
Begin the process of registering as an RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance using your school's certificate and completed training hours log. Registration is done online and takes 15 minutes. Your school will provide the RYS code needed for registration.
Yoga Alliance RYT-200 membership is $115/year. Register immediately upon receiving your certificate — do not delay.
☀️ Afternoon
Final Ubud Exploration — Art Market & Lunch
Ubud town centre
Last afternoon in Ubud: revisit the art market for any final purchases, have a long lunch at a favourite restaurant, and walk the town with the perspective of someone who now knows it properly rather than as a new arrival.
Buy a Balinese painting at the art market as a reminder of the training — a physical anchor to the experience. The rice terrace and temple paintings in the Balinese traditional style are the most authentic.
Pack & Prepare for Departure
YTT accommodation, Ubud
Pack, settle any outstanding bills, and say goodbyes at the school. Arrange the airport transfer for tomorrow morning.
Book the airport transfer the night before — morning departures from Ubud require a 04:00–05:00 car for early flights.
🌙 Evening
Final Evening in Ubud — Sunset & Dinner
Campuhan Ridge or Ubud north rice fields
One final sunset in Ubud — the Campuhan Ridge or the rice field paths to the north of town. Then dinner at your favourite spot discovered during the two weeks. This evening belongs entirely to you.
Make a resolution tonight: teach your first class within 30 days of returning home. The window between completing the YTT and teaching the first class determines whether the training translates into a practice.

Final Morning Practice — Solo
YTT accommodation, Ubud
If time allows before departure, a short solo morning practice in the room or school shala — a private acknowledgement of what the two weeks built. Even 20 minutes of pranayama and standing poses is sufficient.
This is the beginning, not the end. The 200-hour YTT is the foundation; everything that follows is the practice.
Transfer Ubud to Denpasar Airport (DPS)
Ubud → Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar
Pre-booked private car from Ubud to Denpasar Ngurah Rai Airport. The 1.5–2 hour drive passes through the transition from Bali's cultural interior to its coastal airport zone — one final read of the island.
Allow 2.5 hours before departure from Ubud — Bali traffic near Kuta and Ngurah Rai can be unpredictable, especially morning rush (07:00–09:00).
☀️ Afternoon
Departure from Denpasar — Ngurah Rai Airport
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Badung, Bali
Check in, clear immigration, and fly home with a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certification, a notebook of teaching methodology, an anatomy foundation, and two weeks of daily practice that has genuinely changed the body and mind.
Write your first class sequence on the flight home. Pick your first student — it is easier to start with a friend who will forgive you than a stranger who will judge you. The first class is always the hardest.
