💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook
- Bahrain is one of the more liberal Gulf states — alcohol is available in licensed hotels and restaurants, though discretion in public is still appreciated.
- The Pearling Path in Muharraq is a UNESCO site best explored slowly on foot — allow extra time to read the heritage house displays.
- Friday is the main day off; some souk shops and government sites have reduced hours, so check ahead.
- The Bahrain Grand Prix (usually March) draws major crowds and inflated hotel prices — book well ahead if visiting during the race weekend.
- Bahrain is well connected by a short causeway to Saudi Arabia, making it a popular weekend escape for Saudi visitors — expect a livelier atmosphere on Thursday and Friday nights.
