Language preparation
15 min/day for 8 weeks ≈ 672 useful words and phrases
Travelling to an English-speaking country?
If English isn't your first language, a few weeks of practice before you arrive builds real confidence — especially for asking directions, ordering in restaurants, and understanding regional accents.
Essential in United States
- 1.Excuse me, could you help me? — Polite way to approach strangers
- 2.Could I have the bill/check please? — Restaurant (bill = UK, check = US)
- 3.Which platform/track for [destination]? — At train stations
- 4.Sorry, I didn't catch that — asking someone to repeat themselves

🌅 Morning
Arrive at Miami International Airport (MIA)
Miami International Airport, NW 21st Street, Miami
Take the Miami-Dade Metrorail from the airport to Brickell or downtown Miami ($2.25). Uber/rideshare to South Beach hotels takes 30–45 minutes and costs $35–55. Budget 90 minutes transit time during World Cup congestion periods. Avoid taxi rank — Uber is significantly faster and cheaper.
Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens, north of the city — choose accommodation in Brickell or Midtown to split the difference between the stadium and South Beach.
☀️ Afternoon
South Beach — Art Deco Historic District
Ocean Drive, South Beach, Miami Beach
Ocean Drive's 1930s pastel Art Deco buildings form one of the most recognisable streetscapes in the USA. Walk from 5th Street to 15th Street along Ocean Drive, then cut over to Collins Avenue. The Art Deco Welcome Center offers guided walking tours with expert architectural commentary.
The best Art Deco light hits the buildings in the morning and late afternoon — the pastel facades glow in the golden hour before sunset. Midday is harsh and the strip is very crowded.
South Beach swim and sunset
South Beach, Miami Beach (10th–14th Street access)
Miami Beach's white sand strip runs 16km along the barrier island. The water is warm (28–30°C in July), clear, and calm. The lifeguard-patrolled stretch between 10th and 14th Street is the most pleasant. Rent a sun lounger and umbrella from the beach concession.
Parasol Beach rental costs around $30 for two chairs and an umbrella. Apply SPF 50+ — Miami's July UV index is extreme. The water is safest for swimming within the flagged lifeguard zones.
🌙 Evening
Dinner at Versailles (Little Havana)
3555 SW 8th Street (Calle Ocho), Little Havana, Miami
The most famous Cuban restaurant in the USA, open since 1971. Ropa vieja, lechón, black beans and rice, and the best café Cubano in the city. Versailles is also the informal gathering point for Miami's Cuban community on major sporting nights — expect an electrified atmosphere during the World Cup.
No reservations — it's first-come, first-served, and the line usually moves in under 20 minutes. The bakery window at the side serves café Cubano and pastelitos to the sidewalk — join locals there while you wait.
Wynwood & Brickell

🌅 Morning
Wynwood Walls
2520 NW 2nd Avenue, Wynwood, Miami
An open-air museum of large-scale street murals from artists across the globe — the project that sparked the global street art district trend. The Walls itself is a curated, ticketed space within a larger outdoor gallery district. The surrounding streets of Wynwood have murals on every surface.
The Walls open at 10:30am on weekdays and 11am weekends. Combine with a coffee at Panther Coffee (2390 NW 2nd Avenue) — one of Miami's best specialty roasters, right in the Wynwood district.
Little Haiti and Haitian food
Little Haiti, NE 2nd Ave and 79th Street area, Miami
North of Wynwood, Little Haiti is one of Miami's most authentic cultural neighbourhoods — a Haitian community established in the 1980s. Chef Creole (open since 1990) on 79th Street serves the best griot (fried pork) and diri kole (rice and beans) in the city. A completely different Miami from South Beach.
Chef Creole is cash only and has minimal seating — order at the counter and eat at the outdoor tables. The griot plate is large enough for two people.
☀️ Afternoon
Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)
1103 Biscayne Blvd, Downtown Miami
One of the best contemporary art museums in the southeast USA, situated on Biscayne Bay with dramatic views from the terraced outdoor sculpture garden. The collection is particularly strong in African, Caribbean, and Latin American modern art — fitting given Miami's population.
Thursday evenings have reduced admission and often special events. The outdoor terrace café serves excellent waterfront lunches — worth the stop regardless of whether you enter the museum.
🌙 Evening
Brickell City Centre and dinner
Brickell City Centre, 701 S Miami Avenue, Miami
Brickell is Miami's financial district by day and restaurant hub by night. The glass-and-steel towers along Brickell Avenue contain exceptional restaurants — Komodo (Southeast Asian), Los Fuegos (Argentine), and Beaker & Gray (American) are current standouts.
Reserve at least 3 days in advance for any Brickell restaurant during the World Cup — they book up solidly when the city is at peak capacity.
Everglades Day Trip

🌅 Morning
Everglades airboat tour
Everglades Holiday Park, 21940 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale
The Everglades is a 6,000 square km freshwater swamp and the only subtropical wilderness in North America. Airboat tours from the northern entrance (45 minutes from Miami) last 60–90 minutes and pass through sawgrass prairies and mangrove islands — alligator sightings are virtually guaranteed. The sheer scale of the wilderness so close to a major city is remarkable.
Book a tour that departs before 9am to beat the heat and have the best wildlife activity. Bring mosquito repellent even in summer — the Everglades is a different ecosystem from the coast. A car is needed to reach the Everglades from Miami.
☀️ Afternoon
Return and rest before match day preparation
Your hotel, Miami
Return from the Everglades, shower, and rest before match day. Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens, 30 minutes north of Brickell. Plan your departure time for the match carefully — the area around the stadium has limited parking and traffic management is significant on World Cup match days.
Rideshare to Hard Rock Stadium on match days surges heavily. Book an Uber in advance or use the dedicated shuttle services many hotels operate for World Cup guests.
🌙 Evening
Calle Ocho walk — Little Havana pre-match
SW 8th Street (Calle Ocho), Little Havana, Miami
Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) is the main artery of Little Havana and one of the most vibrant streets in the USA during the World Cup. Latin music pours from the bars, domino games run at Maximo Gomez Park, and international supporters from throughout Latin America are present in force.
Ball & Chain (1513 SW 8th Street) is a legendary Havana-style bar that broadcasts every World Cup match with live salsa music. Iconic atmosphere — very full, but worth it.

🌅 Morning
Breakfast at Zak the Baker
405 NW 26th Street, Wynwood, Miami
The best bread and pastry bakery in Miami, operated out of a converted warehouse in Wynwood. The sourdough, rugelach, and egg salad sandwich are all exceptional. Arrive early — the outdoor tables fill quickly on weekdays and it's one of the city's best morning spots.
Zak the Baker opens at 8am and sells out of popular items by mid-morning. The open-kitchen layout and community long tables make it one of the most pleasant breakfast spots in the city.
☀️ Afternoon
Pre-match preparation and travel to Hard Rock Stadium
Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens, FL
Hard Rock Stadium is a 30–45 minute drive from South Beach or Brickell via the Palmetto Expressway. The fanzone opens 3 hours before kick-off. Rideshare drop-off zones are designated at the eastern perimeter. Allow significant extra time — World Cup knock-out match days bring heavy stadium-area traffic.
Pre-book rideshare return trips before leaving for the match. Post-match surge pricing for Uber/Lyft from the stadium can be extreme — prices 4–6× normal. Some fans walk 1.5km to a quieter pickup location away from the stadium cordon.
World Cup Quarter-Final at Hard Rock Stadium
Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens, FL
Hard Rock Stadium holds 65,326 for World Cup configuration. A quarter-final features four of the best eight remaining teams in the world — the tactical intensity and quality of football is at its peak. The stadium roof provides significant shade over most seating areas, which matters enormously in Miami's July heat.
Miami in July averages 33°C and 80% humidity. Hydrate aggressively before and during the match. The stadium sells water and sports drinks — avoid alcohol until after the match if you're affected by heat.
🌙 Evening
Post-match celebrations — Brickell or Coconut Grove
Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd, Downtown Miami
Post-quarter-final nights in Miami are electric — the city has some of the most passionate mixed-nationality football fans in the USA. Brickell's bars and the open plaza spaces along Bayfront Park are the gathering points. Coconut Grove's Coco Walk has a more local, less touristy atmosphere.
The post-match Metromover (free elevated train) between the downtown core and Brickell is the quickest way to move between areas on match nights when roads are congested.

🌅 Morning
Coconut Grove and Villa Vizcaya
3251 S Miami Avenue, Coconut Grove, Miami
Vizcaya Museum is a spectacular 1916 Italian Renaissance-style villa on Biscayne Bay, built by industrialist James Deering. The formal gardens, grottos, and bay-fronting barge are extraordinary. One of the most underrated attractions in Florida. Book ahead — capacity is limited.
The gardens are the highlight — the main house tour is interesting but the waterfront grounds are where Vizcaya's drama really shows. Best photographed in late morning light.
☀️ Afternoon
FIFA World Cup 2026 — Third Place Match at Hard Rock Stadium
Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens, FL
The two semi-final losers contest the third place play-off — an underrated match with two top-eight sides playing with energy and pride rather than the tension of elimination football. The atmosphere is relaxed and celebratory, and the football is often excellent. Hard Rock hosts this on 18 July, the day before the Final in New Jersey.
Third place tickets are typically the most accessible of the late-round matches — often priced lower than semi-finals or the final and easier to find at face value. Book through FIFA official channels.
🌙 Evening
Farewell dinner at Mandolin Aegean Bistro
4312 NE 2nd Avenue, Design District, Miami
A Turkish and Greek restaurant in a converted 1940s cottage in the Design District — one of Miami's most beloved restaurants. Grilled branzino, lamb kebabs, and exceptional meze in a lush garden setting. A complete contrast to the stadium energy and a perfect final meal.
Mandolin has outdoor seating in a private garden — reserve the outdoor tables. The restaurant is quiet and intimate; the Design District is walkable, with excellent galleries and design shops to browse before dinner.
