Arrival & Gardens by the Bay
Tuesday, June 1
Est. spend
$160
per person
🌅 Morning
Arrive at Changi Airport (SIN)
Changi Airport, Singapore
Changi is consistently rated the world's best airport — the four terminals have butterfly gardens, orchid gardens, a slide, a swimming pool (T1), and a cinema. Arrive early if you can.
Take the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) from the airport to the city — SGD 2 per person vs SGD 25–35 for a taxi. Grab (the local Uber) is also reliable.
☀️ Afternoon
Gardens by the Bay — Flower Dome and Cloud Forest
18 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore
Two enormous glass conservatories: the Flower Dome has the world's largest indoor garden, the Cloud Forest has a 35m indoor waterfall and mist-filled mountain covered in orchids. Kids love the waterfall.
Book online — SGD 53 for adults, SGD 40 for children. Go in the afternoon — it gets hot outside but the conservatories are air-conditioned.
🌙 Evening
Supertree Grove at night — OCBC Garden Rhapsody
Gardens by the Bay, Supertree Grove
The 18 metal tree sculptures light up with a sound and light show at 7:45pm and 8:45pm every evening. The OCBC Skyway bridge between the trees is open until 9pm.
The OCBC Skyway (between the trees, 22m up) is SGD 8 per person. The show is free from ground level — children are mesmerised by both.
🍽️ Meals
Changi airport food
Various · $20 · Kopitiam in T3 — kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs with soy sauce, local coffee. Total SGD 5–8 per person.
Hawker Centre, Maxwell Food Centre
Singaporean hawker · $20 · Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice (stall 10) is the most famous hawker dish in Singapore. Queue is worth it.
Marina Bay Sands food terrace

Est. spend
$220

🌅 Morning
Universal Studios Singapore — full day
8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island
Seven zones including Jurassic World, Minions, Transformers, and the Battlestar Galactica roller coasters. Best South-east Asian theme park for children of all ages.
Book online — cheaper, and you bypass the ticket queue. Arrive at 9:30am when gates open. Head to Transformers and Battlestar Galactica first (best rides, longest queues). Kids under 3 are free.
☀️ Afternoon
S.E.A. Aquarium (optional add-on)
8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa
The world's largest aquarium — 49 million litres, 800 species including manta rays and whale sharks. Adjacent to Universal Studios on Sentosa Island.
Buy the Sentosa Fun Pass combination ticket to include S.E.A. Aquarium — better value than separate entry.
🌙 Evening
Sentosa Beach (Palawan or Siloso) at sunset
Palawan Beach, Sentosa Island
Sentosa Island has three beaches — Palawan is the most sheltered and calmest for children. Beach clubs and restaurants along the shore.
Admission to Sentosa Island is free for pedestrians. Beach access is free. Food and drinks are resort-priced — bring water.

🌅 Morning
Chinatown Heritage Centre and Sri Mariamman Temple
48 Pagoda Street, Chinatown
Chinatown's heritage centre traces the arrival of Chinese immigrants — fascinating for older children. Sri Mariamman Temple (free entry with bare feet) is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple.
Walk the weekend night market on Pagoda and Trengganu Streets for souvenirs — haggling is expected here.
Hawker Centre morning — Chinatown Complex
335 Smith Street, Chinatown
The Chinatown Complex Food Centre is the largest hawker centre in Singapore — over 200 stalls. Soya bean curd, char kway teow, and popiah (fresh spring rolls) for breakfast.
Follow the queue, not the menu. Stalls with the longest lines are almost always the best.
☀️ Afternoon
Little India — Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple
141 Serangoon Road, Little India
The most colourful street in Singapore — garland shops, sari tailors, spice merchants, and the extravagant Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Free to enter (remove shoes).
Sunday is the most vibrant day in Little India — migrant worker community gathers, street food extends onto the pavements.
Haw Par Villa
262 Pasir Panjang Road
The strangest park in Singapore — 1,000 plaster statues depicting Chinese mythology and moral fables. Extremely child-friendly (and mildly terrifying). Free entry.
The Ten Courts of Hell exhibit costs SGD 18 and is fascinatingly gruesome. Children 7+ love it. Not recommended for under 6s.
🌙 Evening
Night Safari, Mandai Wildlife Reserve
80 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore
The world's first nocturnal zoo — a 35-minute tram ride through 8 habitat zones where animals roam near the track in darkness. Leopards, tigers, fishing cats, and giant flying squirrels.

Book the first morning slot (10am) for clear views before heat haze builds. Children under 2 are free.
ArtScience Museum

The lotus-shaped museum at Marina Bay Sands has excellent children's exhibitions — Future World (interactive digital art by teamLab) is the must-see.
The Future World exhibition has interactive rooms where children paint digital fish and walk through immersive art. Allow 1.5 hours minimum.
☀️ Afternoon
Singapore Flyer (giant Ferris wheel)
30 Raffles Avenue, Marina Centre
The third-largest observation wheel in the world — 28 air-conditioned cabins, 30-minute rotation, views across to Malaysia and Indonesia. Children love it.
Book online. The 5:30–7pm slot gives you both daylight and sunset views in one rotation.
🌙 Evening

Singapore's most beautiful hawker centre — a Victorian cast-iron market hall from 1894. In the evening, Boon Tat Street is closed and satay stalls set up outside with open fires.

Singapore Zoo — morning
80 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore
Consistently voted Asia's best zoo — open-concept habitats, no cages for most animals. The breakfast with orangutans (book weeks ahead) is the highlight for children.
Book 'Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife' — orangutans, macaques, and colourful birds join you at the buffet. This needs to be booked at least 2 weeks in advance. SGD 42 adults, SGD 30 children.
☀️ Afternoon
Bugis Street Market + airport
3 New Bugis Street, Singapore
A quick browse through Bugis Street's three floors of fashion, accessories, and souvenirs before heading to the airport. Great for last-minute gifts at decent prices.
Changi Airport's own shops are duty-free and well-priced — Tiger Balm, Bak Kwa (pork jerky), and TWG tea are good gifts. The airport butterfly garden is free and worth the children's time while you wait.
🍽️ Meals
Jungle breakfast at the Zoo
Singaporean buffet · $90 · Includes zoo entry. Book online. The most memorable meal of the trip for children.

Before you go
📅 Best time to visit
Year-round — Singapore sits 1° north of the equator, temperature varies less than 5°C all year. February and July are slightly drier. December is Festival season. Avoid public holidays if you want shorter queues at attractions.
🛂 Visas
Most nationalities receive a 30-day visa-free visit on arrival. Check ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) website for your specific passport. Singapore is one of the least restrictive countries for entry globally.
💱 Currency
Singapore Dollar (SGD). 1 USD ≈ 1.35 SGD. Cards accepted almost everywhere — contactless is universal. ATMs are plentiful. The EZ-Link card (SGD 10 load + SGD 5 non-refundable card fee) covers all MRT and buses. Tipping is not expected or required.
🆘 Emergency numbers
police: 999
ambulance: 995
tourist-helpline: 1800 736 2000
💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook
- Singapore is extremely safe — children can travel the MRT independently from age 8 without issue.
- Chewing gum is banned. Don't eat or drink on the MRT (SGD 500 fine). Keep the city cleaner than you found it.
- Grab is the standard app for taxis — same as Uber, widely used, card payment standard.
- The Singapore Tourist Pass (SGD 22/day) covers unlimited MRT and bus — good value for families doing a lot of transit.
- Hawker centres are Singapore's greatest gift to the world — budget SGD 4–8 per dish, same food as hotel restaurants.
- GST (tax) of 9% is added to restaurant bills. Some places add a 10% service charge too — check before tipping.
