7 Days Vancouver: Mountains, Ocean & Whistler

Vancouver sits at the convergence of mountains and ocean — ski in the morning, kayak in the afternoon, eat the best ramen outside Japan in the evening. The city is consistently ranked the world's most liveable, and a week here barely scratches the surface of Stanley Park, the North Shore mountains, the islands, and the Whistler drive. Best June–September for outdoor activities; December–April for skiing.

💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook

  • Vancouver has a serious homelessness and drug issue visible in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) — walking around Hastings Street is sobering. The rest of the city is extremely safe.
  • BC wild salmon (sockeye, chinook) is the best in the world — eat it as sashimi, grilled, or smoked at every opportunity. Buy directly from Granville Island or Steveston dock fishermen for the freshest.
